No. 1 Royal Crescent : ウィキペディア英語版
No. 1 Royal Crescent

No. 1 Royal Crescent is part of the Royal Crescent in Bath, Somerset and is of national architectural importance. It is the headquarters of the Bath Preservation Trust and is operated as a public museum displaying Georgian domestic life, both 'above stairs' and 'below stairs'. It was the subject of a major renovation project during 2012 and 2013 (The Whole Story Project) which reunited Number One with its original service wing, from which it was separated during the 20th century.
==History==

The Royal Crescent was built by John D Wood. No. 1 stands as the cornerstone of one of the most significant urban architectural achievements of the 18th century and is one of the UK's most important buildings, representing the highest point of Palladian architecture in Bath. It has a symmetrical five window front with a central Doric doorcase. The first tennant was Thomas Brock in 1769 and then in 1776 Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.hha.org.uk/Property/2510/Number-One-Royal-Crescent )
Most of the rooms in No. 1 operate as a museum, furnished to represent life in one of the great houses of 18th century Bath. Number 1 Royal Crescent is a historic house museum, owned and maintained by the Bath Preservation Trust through its membership to illustrate how wealthy owners of the late 18th century might have furnished and occupied such a house.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 work=Images of England )〕 It was purchased in 1967 by Major Bernard Cayzer,〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.cityofbath.co.uk/tourism/museums/no-1-royal-crescent.html )〕 a member of the family that made its fortune through the Clan shipping line. He donated it to the Trust with an amount of money for its restoration and furnishing. The Bath Preservation Trust has been working during 2012-13 to re-unite Number One with its original servants' wing at Number 1A Royal Crescent, which has been in use as a separate dwelling for many years and was occupied by George Saintsbury.
